I bought this book after reading and loving another of this author's books so I was extremely surprised by the writing. The style seemed juvenile and the characters were like children also. Huge leaps of logic were everywhere. One example was when the h thought that the H must be a nice person after all because he almost smiled. I couldn't finish the book.Tags : How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back [Sophie Barnes] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Emily Rutherford is having a very bad day. Of course, having the man you’ve loved forever announce his engagement to your (now very former) best friend will do that. How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back Sophie Barnes 9780062190338 Books Reviews
To be brief, too much description and not enough life. There were so many opportunities for humor, empathy, kindred ship, stirring of passions, etc...that were, sadly, missed due (what one could only assume was) to the process of describing the unnecessary. I felt overwhelmed with the authors knowledge of the era, and less akin to the characters personally. Too much disclosure all at once, and nary a moment to connect with the characters, who sometimes weren't all that likable and a tad self important at times. Try as I might to relate, I was unable, and I found myself skipping pages looking for something "interesting" to pull me back into he story.
I loved this book it was very fun to read I thoroughly loved the characters. Buy it today and settle in for a book you own't be able to put down.
I liked this book very much. It had a lot of excitement and intrigue, unusual for historical romances. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a book "with a little more to it."
I'm not sure what I've just read. To be fair to the author, this is NOT my style of book (for which she can take no blame - writing books is hard and hers is rather popular. She deserves all props in that respect).
I feel that my sentiments have lined up with the more negative comments, though there are positive ones too, so this will be right up some alleys.
This book, to me, was misleading. I sort of agree with other posts about the characters being flippant, and I think that Emily made choices that defied all logic (especially when it came to Francis). I thought this was going to be primarily a love story, so when the *spoiler* romance started 20% of the way in, I wondered what the heck this book was about. I think it's a love story, but I'm a little unsure as to the point of the book.
*SPOILERS TO FOLLOW*
I think I'm most upset by two things Wrong Facts and Blatant sex.
Now, if you like books who are hot and heavy (and historically inaccurate) than this will be right up your alley. While Francis and Emily wait until their wedding night to go all the way (as is expected in the time period), she CERTAINLY allows him many liberties up until then. Many.
There was no warning that this was coming my way. One minute Francis had kissed her for the first time...the next he has her breasts exposed and they're almost caught doing the nasty.
I mean...really. I was thrown.
I didn't feel Emily was believable. I didn't care for her and I was put off by many of her actions.
The attention to detail disappointed me too. As a major fan of Regency type material, I was utterly disappointed to see things that wouldn't have been in that day - things that easily could have been researched. And another reviewer was right - whenever there was a problem, people were shocked! And then totally okay with it.
GASP! Our houses are connected?! Well...okay.
GASP! You kissed me even though I hate you? ...Yes, please begin to undress me right before my sisters return home. How sweet, he wants to keep my virginity intact for propriety's sake...but only before I tell him I've read the Kamasutra and could please him immeasurably.
*END SPOILERS*
Again, this is all my opinion. This book has good reviews too, so certain readers like it. But if you're interested in Jane Austen, JB Lynn, or Shanna Swendson intellectual and funny type romances, I would pass this by.
I had fun reading this book and would recommend it to anyone whom like this type of book ,nice job
I liked this couple from the start. The book was an enjoyable read and I would really like to see the other sisters' stories, too.
Good story. Serious errors in historical context. Mentioning a work by Tchaikovsky thirty years before he is even born. Speaking of turning on lights and chiming doorbells. This was Regency era Britain.
